"Curiosity as Calling: Betty Wolfe on Learning, Leadership, and Life's Surprises"

In this episode of Class of ‘75 Conversations, Dr. Art McClanahan talks with Betty Wolfe.

Betty Wolfe shares her vocational and personal journey beginning with her time at Duke Divinity School, which she entered without a clear sense of calling but with a deep curiosity and love of learning.

Her Divinity School experience, as part of one of the first larger cohorts of women, was both intellectually enriching and institutionally challenging, fostering lifelong friendships and awakening a commitment to justice and inclusion.

After leaving academia, she unexpectedly built a 45-year career in biofeedback and somatic education, becoming a certified practitioner and teacher while also being shaped by spiritual growth in the Episcopal Church.

She reflects on the importance of mentorship, community, and the evolving role of women in religious and institutional settings, which led her to support historical documentation of women's experiences at Duke.

Now facing a new chapter, Betty plans to move into a retirement community, carrying forward her enduring spirit of inquiry and reflection.
